I almost always cave in to my morning temptation to either swing by the Starbucks drive-thru, or to fix myself my favorite Soy Chai Tea Latte drink. Today I actually conquered that temptation. I felt so good after two days of eating at least 70% raw, and after my breakfast of grapefruit, that I just didn't want to have that "heavy" feeling.
I came home and looked on YouTube for some good raw smoothie videos. On Karen Knowler's site, she has a raw chocolate smoothie that sounded great. I made it, although I added bananas to mine in addition to the cashews, water, raw cacoa, and dates that she used. It is so delicious! I actually made more than I can drink right now, so I'm looking forward to having that as an afternoon snack.
Tonight I will be attending a Christmas party. I'm trying to decide how to handle it. I know there will be plenty of meat, cheese, crackers, sweets, and wine. I know I will most likely have a little wine, but I'm really hoping there will be some veggies and fruit out as well. There will most likely be a dish of nuts or two, so I will munch on those as well. I also think I will fix a great big green smoothie to take in the car with me on the drive over (it is about a half hour away), then I will arrive at the party having a pretty full tummy.
You know what I'm noticing? And I noticed this when I went on a week-long Green Smoothie challenge a while ago. When I begin to "clean out," I feel a tingly sensation in my arms and legs. It is a good tingling feeling, like I am vibrating energy. Who knows what it really is, but I like to think it is my blood being revitalized by "living" food.

Introduction
Hi Everyone
I decided to start a blog to both document my journey of trying to improve my health and eating habits (and my children's eating habits), as well as offer tips that can help your family.
I am going to start 2009 with an experiment: 30 days of raw foods. If you're familiar with the documentary "Simply Raw-Reversing Diabetes in 30 Days " then you've seen how switching to a diet of raw foods (especially if you've been eating the Standard American Diet) can reverse disease and make a person feel better than they ever have in their life.
I have allowed myself to eat plenty of junk over the holiday season--saying "yes" to every cookie that has come my way. But I'm now paying the price for that. I feel very sluggish, borderline depressed, irritable, foggy, and exhausted most of the time. I find that I have really not enjoyed this season very much and I am curious if it has anything to do with the sugar, flour, and fat that I've crammed in my body.
So here goes...30 days of raw foods...let's see what happens!
